The NMSD Classified volunteer Negotiations Committee worked long and hard into the summer to bargain a fair contract for their members. Negotiations were difficult but with persistence, the union and the district finally reached a tentative agreement on July 22nd for a 2-yr. contract.
A special chapter meeting was called August 5, 2008. OSEA Field Rep. Shawna Harris presented the members with the new proposal.
Contract Highlights include: a 4% salary increase in the first year and a 3% in the second year; a healthcare benefit increase to $940 in the first year and a raise in benefit to $990 in year two; a $.50/hr. increase plus a $500/yr. stipend for the SLP/BSC/BEST IA's; a $.50/hr raise for the Media Techs; the creation of a Sick Leave Bank; and beginning in September, the first two occurrences of inclement weather school closure late starts and early dismissals will be paid time and full day closures will be paid beginning on the third day of closure.
The members voted 45-1 in favor of the tentative agreement. The meeting ended with door prize drawings of items donated by OSEA.
